Fresh from calling and cancelling new insurance with Adrian flux I had called through ad in winter 23 edition (which I not finished reading) I been looking about for insurance as multi for my two landys , I got series 3 found but a few where unable to find a match for my S2a swb 88 , I got 109 to four door county to can't find anything so as I saw ad in msg I called up went through usual questions got to the s2a after a few mins of them tweaking there info so it would come up correctly they proceeded to offer two insurance covers as was working out cheaper they said ,?,? So I carried in asked for what cover I wished etc but one was breakdown cover which would cover me in any vehicle or as passenger but it would cost £47 for each of the policies??? A quick interrupt questioned why would I need it twice if it covers me in any vehicle ?? I got emm oh yes I see what you mean ! , so this was happening to a few other parts too each time I had to stop them and question why each vehicle had to have this if it covers any vehicle or for any item in any vehicle basically they where trying there luck I felt so once they had finished I paid first initial monthly payment I got all the online set up and info of conditions etc this is where it all started to fall apart they had imposed a restriction of use on the s3 to 10pm to 6am must be at home address parked up !  Emm nope ! Then resorted to 5000 each vehicle if I wanted more it will cost more as so on I read to point I added it all up and it was near £300 pound more a year with all these add ons as it two separate policy's ! So I called today to cancel as even I was asked if member of club I said yes three with my landrover but no discount had been applied or even in contract conditions anywhere but basically a lot due to costs so I'm going to stick to my footman james which has increased a bit this time but it multi plus a lot of extras are included and not a extra payment for plus 10,000 miles total combined so if I use both I can't go over my max but can and only few quid have it increased so yes I been a bit of a headache going through a lot of quotes systems etc and getting slot not able to give a correct vehicle identification on there systems for either one or both so it's just a moan and thought I share with you I'm sure there might be other companies folk with and are happy with but I say check your policy's fully that they have accurate info on your vehicle type and any modifications plus club discount if acceptable.
Cheers oh merry Xmas and a happy new year to all .

I have been with Footman James for years now. I occasionally shop around, but have never found better cover for less money. I have a "fleet" policy that covers an eclectic mix of vehicles, including the Land-Rover, several motorcycles, a microcar and my Austin lorry project; all for about £550 a year.

I also have found Footman James very good, perhaps not cheap but a fair cost for the cover on my 3 series, agreed value, 2 being far from standard, and always easy to deal with :gold-cup

I've used Adruan flux for 17ish years, limited mileage policy, agreed valuation, it's never been over £100, never had any issues, but then I've always just had the single vehicle policy with no extras. Hope this continues come renewal time though, sounds like you've had a right mess on.

Exile

I use Flux too, for two fleet Policies and a few individual ones.

You have to get other quotes at renewal, to keep them honest.

Every now and again I switch a Policy to another Company for a year - just to let Flux know that my custom cannot be assumed.

Yes, it is strange the way cover and cost can change considerably from owner to owner with the same insurer and similar vehicle.
I had same issue with the restriction to overnight use that wasn't explained initially. That was through a comparison site and did seem good value at £66.
It does bemuse me when I call so called 'experts' and you have to explain exactly what your vehicle is ! 😠

Robby

I used a few different companies over the years.  Best by far RH insurance, good price, good cover and not the normal automaticly increasing each year. Well worth a look when next due

This is hard-wired. I'm not sure -as a general rule- why any of this would be news? Insurers and household utilities all work the same. They make the big part of their money via customer lethargy. Your given supplier of any service will quietly bump the price because it's the easiest thing to do, and most of us allow it. If a supplier can hook you on, there's money in this.

The opposite is customer-churn, churn is expensive and usually subsidised by the hard-wired lethargy of others. Not always, yet usually you'll get a better deal by switching your gas/electric/broadband/insurer etc at each renewal.

One of you will now chime, because they've found the exceptions this is not true. Some suppliers work on the model that churn is expensive, thus don't do this - only it's not the rule.

Maybe not related but I got the renewal quote for my daily driver, little car insurance the other day.
Last year it was £115 and this year £230. What happened to double the cost of insurance?

Craig.

Blame it on all the problems associated with all this electric junk they're conning us into buying. Insurers have to recover losses with these somehow.
My answer is to hike the insurance premiums on electric junk.

I read over the weekend that insurance premiums for IC cars has risen around 30% while those for electric has risen around 79%.
Probably more again soon when you factor in the car transporter ship carrying several thousand new cars which burned and sank off the Azores earlier this year when an electric car blew up. The same occurred over near the Baltic a couple of months later though in this case the ship didn't sink but the several thousand cars burned out. A couple of months ago a family in St Austel had their 1 year old electric Vauxhall's blow up on the drive taking their home with it ( not insured) and leaving them with only the night clothes they escaped in. Then of course there's Luton airport  car park....but the That was a diesel wasn't it !!!! ?

Alan Drover

.... could've been a hybrid diesel!
Hike electric junk insurance even more then.

They, the brokers, agents insurers etc must have embarrassment trained out of their souls
At their lack of knowledge landrover/defender/series models.
I expect it to be in their professional interests to be so informed..

Might I suggest maybe at least one person from the 'professionals'go down to the dunsfold  museum ,I am in awe of Phill Bashalls knowledge, passion and collection.

Always get quotes for renewal in plenty of time. Along with customer lethargy, the other way insurers wring money out of us is last minute. Insurance is not like hotels and airline tickets. Insurance doesn't risk going empty. Last minute, there's a power-shift. Insurers have the power, not you.

Cover that starts in 3 hours gets a different price to cover that starts in 3 weeks.

Renew a month prior.

Defender 300d gone up from £500 to 800 quid.

Electric Up! Gone up from £300 to 500 quid.

So percentage wise, about the same.
