I plan to try to get to some of the rally's this year. But need to get some camping gear. Main thing is a tent. Due to my age I need one I can stand up in, but only need a 2 man.
Any advice on which make, type to buy would help.

I'd suggest heading to your nearest outdoor retailer, Go Outdoors or such and have a look at what style suits you.
It depends on your height, budget and patience.
We have three tents, all are good quality. A small Vango Omega "350" sized tent, that has space, we can fully set up in under 4 minutes, but you can't stand up in it.
An older style fixed pole Outwell "500" size, that is sizable but takes time to erect. Lastly we have a ridiculous, palatial, Kampa "700" air beam tent, that's amazing but is huge and was expensive.
eBay is awash with tents, people have tried out camping and decided it's not for them and bargains can be had, once you've set your parameters.

We used to have a small bungalow tent. 200 cm high (about 7 ft) and approx 250x250 cm (8 ft) square, poly-something outer shell, cotton-mix inner as sleeping quarter, alu poles. Easy and quick to set up ( and fold), dries quickly, doesn't cost the world. Not a Big Name in Tents. Just your average store brand. We used it on travels through parts of Europe. Pitched it almost daily, for about three weeks, year in year out. We still have it, thirty odd years on. But now I wouldn't use it when it rains. 😎

We now have a rooftop tent, a Maggiolina Grand Tour, wonderful thing, but even a midg, erm, little person would struggle to stand straight in it

Winfields tend to have tents up to wander into as well. They have one somewhere near Chester.

Thats one for me to check out, I am very close to chester.

I have not gone tenting for years (once you have slept in a vehicle you never go back to sleeping on the cold hard ground).
But when  we did tent it was always nice to have say a 3 man tent even if there were just 2 of you then you have room for all your
extras inside out of the rain. :cheers-man   Happy camping.

I haven't been to that site myself but the haslingden one is my first stop for camping gear these days. They seem a bit keener on price than the bigger names. Would imagine it's same stuff at both places.

Anther one to  :cheers-man consider is the decathlon own, Quechua brand.

Our local area must have shares in these, as 3 members now all have matching Quechua air tents. Erected in minutes, can stand up in them, and seem very reliable. Can't remember the size of the tent, seem to recall it was a 4 man, but I've been very impressed with them!

One thing I did remark on when I was at the Peak District rally this year, was that the event was just as much a tent and camping show as it was a Land Rover rally - I'm not sure any two camping set ups were the same, and I found it fascinating having a wander round seeing what folk had come up with and were using.

Tom

This is the one that I've seen lots of locally.

Finished height around 160, so you may not completely stand up, but it's close at a decent price.

This is an old fashioned tent made of heavy canvas with a centre pole. Only suitable for matrasses, there is
not enough room for camp beds. The centre pole is a great help when getting up, and for steadying yourself
when dressing.

Winfields, certainly the one at Haslingden, has a large tent display in the summer...and if you don't mind waiting then the end of season, ex display clearance is good too  :cheers-man

Having had all sorts of tent from a roof tent to a few 3 bed (pod) Khyam Rigi Domes. So far the best we have had is a Decathlon Air dark, the dark is the important bit, built in ground sheet and very heavy duty,
easy to put up, stays up in high winds so long as it's tied down and the inner sleeping pod is of a light proof material that means you don't wake up with the sun, only complaint is the pump is an extra.   https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/4-man-inflatable-blackout-tent-air-seconds-4-1-fandb/_/R-p-302837?mc=8648382&c=beige

Just searching google and came across drive away awning/tent. Anybody using these?

Littlelegs

We used driveaway awnings with my T4 Camper for years. I think the first was an outwell and the second was Sebring. Both were with sewn in groundsheets (which keep the drafts out better) and they were the carbon pole type dome style. 2 poles crossed over and a porch pole. Very stable even in high winds and we're 3m x 3m and you could stand up in both. There were 3 of us and 2 German shepherds and that gave plenty of room.

The only thing about them was if the wind caught the flap that attaches to the vehicle it would sometimes pull this out and then it'd flap against the van and eventually tear. Usually at 3am 😂. We used to just tie it off and leave it like a dome tent.

Rather expensive but if you wanted a driveway that fits a landrover the military ones should be about the right size as designed for defenders
