Hi All, I've just joined your forum as I plan a Series 2 build. I have no experience of full sized Land Rovers, although I have built these smaller versions!

I hope to sell my trusty R90s, which I've owned since 1980 but which only gets used about twice a year, to fund this new venture. I do have a bit of experience of building full sized vehicles - having built a SRV8 Cobra (missing the sound of the rover V8 in that has decided my choice of powerplant for this project) and a classic Mini which replaced it. I will be hoping to pick the brains of those with experience of V8 installation - I picked up my engine recently (3.9), I will be letting the local Youth motor project that I help run strip it down for assessment shortly.

Welcome John, only a member here for a year and also from Dorset. You'll find everything you need here, I would be lost maintaining my Series 2 without the knowledge here!

Good luck with your project!

Welcome John.
I take it you haven't found a suitable project vehicle yet?
Drop me a personal message - I might have a few suggestions.

I have my eye on a few vehicles that would be suitable but the bike needs to go first to fund it.

Hi John.
Solid choice! Depending on where you are, if you need a V8 series 2 to poke around then just shout. Happy to share my meagre knowledge.

I'd love to see one that's done but I'm in Bridport, Dorset so not very close unfortunately. Will definitely ask questions though if that's alright.

Where in Dorset are you, anywhere near Bridport?

Hi John, welcome to the forum.

Lovely Land Rovers there. I'm working the other way to you, started with full size Land Rovers and as soon as I finish my series one restoration, I'll be building a Toylander.
I also built a Cobra replica. Nice car the Southern Roadcraft one and I live very close to where they were once made but I went for a Dax with a 350 Chevy engine. I do still own it but too expensive to put on the road each year so it hasn't been used for a while now.

Look forward to hearing about your project Land Rover when you get there.  :RHD

Craig.
Hi Craig, I think one of the SRC founder brothers worked for Dax before they set up on their own? I got rid of mine because it was too impractical and built the Mini. I lengthened my series 2 Toylander for more scale accuracy and I think it looked better for it. I also re-designed the rear capping which was very angular on the plans at the time and made a working replica of the column mounted indicator switch.

Hi John.

I got my engine from one of the Southern Roadcraft chaps. Brian he was called and still based on the south coast in Lancing and he had a number of Cobras in the workshop when I went there. The company is now called Repower - Roadcraft and they still sell complete V8's as well as components for everything American V8

I have just found my Toylander plans and was wondering where the extra length you added was placed and how much extra you added? Was it all in the doors? Must admit, yours does look better than the drawings I have here.

From memory I added 2" to the doors and 2" behind them. That's interesting about the Nicholls still being in business - I'll contact them to see if they still make their alternator bracket that I used on my cobra.
