What do ppl use that are good phone sat nav holders? for a series that is

If your phone is "mag safe" compatible, then a mount is cheap, simple and relatively discrete in a classic car. I have one designed for tripod mounting (so with a 1/4" BSW thread), which is just a 60mm or so round disc.

I can't risk a suction holder for a £1200 phone  :shakinghead

My solution is to use a Munsen ring clamped around the steering column with a phone clasp/grip (off eBay).
This puts the phone display - Sat Nav and/or speedo right in your line.

I didn't think you could stick anything to the screen anymore anyway, 3 points, isn't it?

I like the idea of the steering column though

Alternatively you can mount an iPad clamp to the top of the bulkhead and it's great for following/recording your route on a map app ....

I just leave my very cheap Nokia in my pocket and ignore it if it rings.

Worth a look at the Brodit site for the actual phone holder. The support brackets are vehicle specific, but the phone holder brackets are really well made and can be adapted in lots of ways.
Standard fit for many emergency response vehicles...

I'm a RAM mount convert now having used cheap AA branded ones for years. Beauty of the Ram holder is you only need the 'ball' attached to the vehicle and and holder and arms etc can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. Scores of different options and it's all interchangeable. Very good at isolating from vibration too. It's a great system but they aren't too cheap.

I find that the person sitting in the passenger seat is a convenient and effective holder.

Never heard of that - having just googled it:-

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/stickers-or-other-items-in-front-and-rear-windscreens/view-to-the-front-and-windscreen-obscuration

"In practice, the annual test will check that items placed in or stuck to the windscreen or surface damage, cracks or discolouration in the windscreen do not seriously obscure the vision of the driver. In order to better define what maybe permissible the windscreen is divided into zones:

Zone A is a vertical area 290mm wide, centred on the steering wheel and contained within the swept area of the windscreen (this area is 350mm wide on vehicles over 3.5 tonnes);
Zone B is the remainder of the swept area of the windscreen
For simplicity, surface damage, cracks or discolouration, are simply referred to as damage.

In Zone A, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 10mm diameter circle. A combination of minor damage areas shall not seriously restrict the drivers view. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 10mm.

In Zone B, a single damaged area shall be contained within a 40mm diameter circle. Windscreen stickers, or other obstructions, shall not encroach more than 40mm.

Windscreen repairs shall be assessed the same as unrepaired damage and shall not restrict the driver's vision.

Cracks passing through the swept area of the windscreen and reaching two points at the edge shall be deemed to render the windscreen insecure.

Items placed in, or stuck to, the windscreen could be stickers, pennants, satellite navigation monitors or decorations.

Original vehicle design features and drivers aids, such as sun visors, are allowed.

Vehicles that do not comply with the above could be construed to be in contravention of the legislation."

Will check the placement of mine to see if it's legal

There's also "driver's" windscreen in some of the text. Having a split screen makes things a little more/less complicated.

The reason I know Is all the trucks at work had to have the tax and other disks removed and put on the dash of about 100 HGVs
