I know this isn't a Land Rover topic but please can anyone please tell this idiot in words of one syllable or less how QR codes are scanned and whether only certain devices can do it? My smartphone is a nearly 4 year old Nokia 3.4 running Android 12.

Use camera over code, 'find' window should appear.

With QR codes just point your phone camera at the graphic. Hold the phone steady and when the phone has recognised the code there will be a tab on the phone screen to press. It will then take you to the QR's website - may take a second or 2 depending on your phone's internet connection.

Your phone is not that old technology wise and if you are using a recent OS upgrade reading the QR code should be plain sailing.

Try this one:-

Does camera mode have to be turned on? With or without I'm getting nothing.

Alan, on my cheapo Android phone, this is what I find:

# open the camera function
# below the screen you will see a list of options such as "photo" "edit" "video" etc.
# if you scroll along to the end of these you may find 'QR code". Click on that and then just take a picture with the phone.

On the normal photo setting my phone does not recognise a QR code - I just get a photo of the QR code which is not very helpful!!

afaik just open the camera app and point at the code, no need to take a picture.

I tried again and after moving about it came up. It's just a matter of getting in the right position.
Thanks for the advice.

Well, I've tried all the advice given here and pointed my Android Version 9 phone at Wittsend's symbol - and nothing happens.

Nor have I found "QR code " on the options.

Either the phone is too old, or I am incompetent - or most likely, both.

EDIT.

Cracked it.

On my phone I have to open Google Lens and allow it access.

Thanks for the inspiration to get out of my comfort zone!

A Google search comes up with this:-

QuoteYou need Android 9 or higher to scan QR codes with your device's built-in camera. Learn how to check and update your Android version.
