Can the members here that run V8's give me some idea as to where to go to get insurance and a rough idea on how much. After 15 years building mine its come the time to insure it and all being well get it MOT'd next Wednesday. It still needs a bit of fettling to complete but just want to get it on the road and do the fettling and ironing out the bugs whilst it's on the road.

I always used Adrian Flux on my series 3 V8

They insure all sorts of modified, custom and classic cars. They insured my Cobra replica, my V8 series 3 and they now insure my completely standard 109" SW.

Friend of mine now owns that series 3 and it has a Designa chassis under it with Discovery axles and a 4.6 V8. They insure it just fine with photos of the vehicle showing the modifications and the general condition of it.
You should still be getting an MOT on it though I think with a V8 fitted.

If you have a V8 fitted to a Series 2 vehicle you don't NEED an MoT if it is registered as a Vehicle of Historic Interest.
If the vehicle is registered as one of Historic Interest (as it should be, for vehicles over 40 years old) then you are OK with a V8 as it is a recognised engine that was fitted to some Series models.

Go to one of the recognised classic car insurers, as advertised in B2L and in Land Rover magazines. You should not be paying any more if you have a V8 fitted.

You shouldn't need an "engineers report" though some insurers try it on. You definitely DON'T NEED a report for a change on the DVLA V5C registration doc update. That baby was laid to rest years ago.

When I sent the v5 of years ago to change the fuel type from diesel to petrol it came back with the taxation class altered to Historic Vehicle there is very little other info on the V5 no engine size or engine number filled in but the model says 88" - 4 Cyl as if that will be an issue.

Just got to fit the glass to the door tops then as Craig mentioned then take some photos and as Alan mentioned go through the list in the back of the B2L mag.

Adrian Flux. Just note that on my renewal their 'handling fee' was £60 out of the total of around £140. !!!

Another one to add to the list would be Hegerty as a friend of mine as both his S1 and S2 V8 insured with them, will have to give him a ring later to see what deal he got.

With this MOT exemption is it just a matter of getting insurance and then filling in the MOT exemption form and taking it to the post office.

For my 109" I insure it with Adrian Flux, I tax it online each year which you still need to do even though there is no cost to it, then just drive it.

I have never filled in any forms or anything to say it's MOT exempt. During the online tax application there is a tick box to confirm the vehicle is standard and it suitable for MOT exemption, that is all.

I'm kind of surprised they consider a Rover V8 a suitable engine to keep MOT exemption as there are many forms of the V8 from a little 3.5 litre one up to 5 litres. Quite a change from the standard 2286 engine really but then they also consider the TDI as a suitable engine to maintain MOT exemption although it is around twice the power with a turbo fitted...
