Good morning people,

I found a 12v Klaxon horn in my shed yesterday which certainly makes a loud noise, while the original horn on my 88 gives a high tone probably quite normal for the 50's and 60's.

Has anyone adapted or swapped theirs for a more preferable tone or note?

I fitted the low tone Clear Hooter horn. Sounds like an old car and sounds somewhat 'happy and gentle' when pressed.

I have an ugha horn, cheap off eBay - great for beeping friends.

Anything else just excites road rage.

Are the "Colonel Bogie" style airhorns still legal?

There was also "La Cucaracha" which translates into English as "The Cockroach."

Full disclosure, though don't hold it against me:
After 30 years, I retired from the Police Service in January this year.
As a beat cop I never let off a shoplifter.

As a Traffic Cop (18 years) I took great pleasure in having illegal number plates reported to DVLA (they own the number), seen them issue the keeper with an age related plate and barred from having a cherished transfer again.

Horns - single tone only.

Waiting for the hate mail now!

The multiple tone horns could be switched so they played all together which was a bit of a cacophony. Would that make them legal?
Not much room to fit 5 multiple horns on a Land Rover.

As it is, I believe we have several members of His Majesty's Constabularies within the club so you are not alone!

As a result of water getting inside mine without me noticing as the result of a very wet green laning trip last year (you can tell how often I use it), only found when youngest grandson wanted to sit in the drivers seat and was disappointed that there was no noise.  I bought a cheap from Ebay for less than a fiver.  It is more than adequate and can be classed as disposable

If you want to be noticed, perhaps fit a Stebel Nautilus? Widely regarded as a very loud horn!

richardhula

Having fitted an air horn to my Morgan I had a pair of regular high/low note horns spare so fitted those to my S2a. Makes a huge difference.

110 db is really the upper limit I'd go. No point having a horn louder. I'm not protecting coastline. I've known a few folk who could do an excellent job in that role mind.
