I see that next Thursday 12th December Ant is doing a 1978 Series 3.

Freeview Channel 12 Quest.

According to the write up:

"Ant finds a rare 1978 Land Rover Series 3, a dream find for a Landie fanatic. But the bulkhead is riddled with rust, which could dent Ant's profit. S1/Ep8"

I'm intrigued by the 'rare'!

Craig T

Maybe it hasn't had checker-plate stuck all over it and it still has its correct series 3 chassis ID plate, that would be a rare thing....

I'll record that. Thanks for the info.
Why on earth do they have to use that abomination of a word "Landie!!!!?"
(Just programmed it in to the recorder).

I wonder what he does about the inevitable tatty dashboard top. Being post November 1975 these are unobtainium but I wonder if it'll be shown.
Should be good for a laugh anyway.

Would you have a link? When I do a search on the Internet I can't find it (maybe as I'm outside the UK?).

Cheers!

I've seen Landy, Landie and truck all criticised on here. What are we allowed to call it? "My Land Rover" seems too formal and it's not exactly a car  ???

If I referred to my wife as "the wife" all the time she would think I was guilty of something. She answers (mostly) to all manner of charming and flattering nick names.

I adopt the same approach with the Landrover, aka, Landy, landie, mobile chicken coup, dog box, fart box and occasionally; Land Rover series 2 1958 SWB domestic market basic spec. Or LRS21958SWBDMBS 😉 which is obviously the WiFi password.

Oh... if you own a dog, and you call your dog by its actual name all the time... you don't love your dog.

Alan Drover

My Land Rover is called "The Land Rover" and the dog is called by his name in varying tones when he's out and about. In the garden or house he's called by his nickname which is no way abusive.

Exile

I call mine by the same name that Rover did.

Perhaps I lack imagination.......

However (between friends, and don't tell anyone🤫 ) I do quite frequently call it the Effinthing !🤬

As an aside, Ant did come to mine eleven years ago to collect a Series One

Looks a bit younger in the photo......

Personally I loath the word "Landy" and always have done so!

"Trucks", in my view are big boy's toys - lots of wheels and usually have something like Scania, Mack or Peterbilt stamped across the front. If you hit them with a Land Rover it's not a winning formula. I therefore wouldn't call a Land Rover a "truck".

I call mine "The Landie"
I sometimes call my wife "The Wife"

Who really cares what someone else calls it, it's your own term of affection.

Just don't call it a 'Jeep'

I'll go with that. "The Landy" just seems a lot more affectionate than "The Land Rover". And I personally prefer "truck" to all the alternatives (SUV, vehicle, car, off-roader, J**p... ) - plus the definition ("a motor vehicle designed to... perform other utilitarian work") sounds about right.

On the subject of J**ps, I found this abomination recently while filling in gaps on the vehicle database - this is a member mind!  :confused
