Such a nice car, the Dzjeeeeeg XK8, wether in coupé or cabrio format... Love my MG TF 160, but otherwise...

Being an old southern softie when it comes to cold hands, I got the diesel heater working in the garage whilst sorting my Blanchards delivery!

I set up an automatic one shot oil delivery system for the front axle but on reflection I'd better yet dispense with the nozzle on the bottle and find a bit of 1/2" flexi tube.

I filled the t'box and g'box with Ep90 and made a tool to undo the diff drain plug.

There were a few small gritty bits in the g'box drain plug and a single sheared tiny flake. I have an idea I put Molyslip in many, many years ago.

We had a lovely run out, despite the drizzle, to the NW Christmas Meal at Bridge House Farm Tea Room at Wray. Nice to see people and catch up over a lovely three course meal and some informal quizzing.

Today was spent pottering fixing a few things on CliVE ready for us to head out north between Christmas and New Year.
I didn't grab any pictures but i've made a late series 3 style mount for the brake light switch that mounts inside. I have a defender brake tower in CliVE so the standard mounts don't fit.  Unfortunately the Lucas switch I ordered self destructed the second I tested the setup and the little internal spring is somewhere in my hedge at the bottom of the garden

I also reset the door catches and replaced all the hinge pins and balls.
Now they all shut without a massive slam!

While I was pottering I finally managed to round up the bits i've been given and purchased to knock this together.
It lasts a good couple of hours on the 4ah battery.

Yesterday really, I had planned to take the wife's car to the club Christmas meal - it needed a run. It was dead and the jump starter wasn't man enough. So had to take the Land Rover, a few moments on the fuel pump and it started first turn (as expected).

Today, had to look at her car which was out on the road. Planned to pull the battery out to put in the workshop, rusty bolts (it's 15 years old) stopped me. Fished out my monster leisure battery, that got it started. Drove it into workshop, where a voltage test showed 9.3 volts! Typical Vauxhall parasitic discharge, there's a note in the instruction book to disconnect the battery of leaving for a few weeks.

Why are modern cars such rubbish?

After long periods of disuse, short journeys and heavy demands on the battery (heated screens, blower, lights starting several times and wipers) I wasn't surprised to find a very low voltage of 11.76, and no, the battery is fine! I don't intend to drive any great distance over Christmas to give it a good charge (the alternator is putting out 14+ volts) and I won't use a mains powered charger outdoors and the electric garage door wouldn't close as it would detect the cable as an obstruction, I used my CTEK portable booster. It brought the voltage up to 12.18 before it needed charging itself so I'll put it back on tomorrow.
11.76 would be enough to start the engine because of the high torque starter motor.

Found a use for surplus Bronze Green paint. Major engineering works at Schloss Diffwhine to support the Christmas tree. I found a rather nice stand rusting away in a hedge a year or so ago, so revived it then had to mount it on a board as it wasn't stable enough to support the tree.

It may not be a Series 2, but its the paint and fixings that go on a Series 2... :cheers

Wow. I've not seen that before. South America perhaps? Or AI. Does the image have provenance?

I don't know where I got it from but I don't think it is an AI image - I've had it on file for a few years.
