I have just tried to fit a Britpart Handbrake adjuster (37H6134L) that I purchased from Blanchards in February. However the 1/4 UNF fixings would not hold 'torque' as the studs are undersize.

Measured stud diameter = 0.228 Inches they should be 0.25 Inches diameter however the TPI (28) is correct

I tried a metric M6 nut but this did not fit (M6 nominal diameter  = 0.230 Inches  TPI =25 (1mm pitch))

It would appear that they have used 6mm rod and threaded it with 1/4UNF, thus giving the correct TPI but undersize.

I have returned the part to Blanchards and ordered a Genuine part as a replacement. Beware!

I always specify genuine parts wherever possible. The late type fuel sender unit for 2A/3's is a typical example of genuine over pattern and it wasn't that much more expensive.
We're lucky with Land Rover spares as some genuine parts are available unlike MG parts where genuine parts are no longer available and owners have to rely on pattern parts.
