As I mentioned, I intend to paint my wheels Limestone (which I think will look better and also I understand is the correct combination for a Light Green truck.)

I've only painted small components (dash, heater etc. in the past and just used rattle cans.  I was wondering if that would be the best/most cost effective way to paint and whether it's worth investing in anything, as there will be other components that need to paint in the future.
I don't really want to powder coat as I know colours can be limited.  Once I've had them blasted, the options for painting the wheels would be.
1. Rattle Can (I'm guessing expensive)
2. Brush/roller (trickier to get a good finish?
3. Cheap electric spray gun (I'm guessing these are designed for decking/fences etc rather than coach enamel)
4. Buying a compressor and spray gun (don't really want to spend that or have to store everything if I can avoid it, but might be handy for other air tools.)
What does everyone tend to use? Are the cheap spray guns and option (and any better than rattle cans?)

You should be able to get wheels blasted and repainted at about 100gbp each, which will be better quality than anything you can do at home. I recently had the wheels for my 110 done and they are better than factory.

I bought a new spraygun this week for just over £27.00.

It came with three different nozzle set-ups, a spanner and a toothbrush!

It sprays fine.

If you can buy a small compressor, then you need to add the cost of paint, thinners, strainers and possibly plastic measuring pots.

If this comes to more - or less - less than Dan's £500 for five wheels it is then your choice, albeit the kit will probably come in handy again.


For the last couple of days, I have been sanding/preparing 4 Land Rover wheels, and spraying them in (Paintman) Limestone.

I also have a rattle can of Paintman Limestone to touch-in any awkward areas (of which there are plenty on wheels!)
