Evening all, sorry i've been a bit quiet - new baby arrived and we bought and moved onto a smallholding in last 2 month period... though the old series did drive the 4 miles under its own smoke, on the road for the first time since 1997!

As I rebuild the barn at the new place...to continue give me somewhere to continue rebuilding the 109... i'm contemplating the bulkhead. Time is at a premium more than ever with a ruin of a croft and a new baby so i'm thinking of altering plans from repairing my (crusty but unmolested) bulkhead in favour of a new one.

Both Pegasus and Rob Owen seem to have their fair share of fitment/supply issues, wondered if there is a clear leader at the moment. Hoping to have the new workshop up and running in early 2025, so trying to source the remainder of the rebuild parts to avoid delays once its done.

If you look back a couple of weeks on the forum you'll see the issues I have with a shielder bulkhead.
I have been promised a payment as compensation and replacement for the one pictured.
So far the payment has not been made and the subject is now being avoided by them.
The replacement was initially one they had ready and to be sent out the next day. That didn't arrive.
It was then being built for me. Then at the galvaniser to be shipped the next day arriving yesterday.
So far no promise has been kept and we are now very close to the decision to act against them.

Robert Owen for me.

My experience of dealing with Pegasus (who supplied a Shielder bulkhead), taking months, not the weeks promised and involving countless unanswered emails and phone calls plus a LOT of what we might charitably call blarney, would lead me to recommend Rob Owen. Surely he can't be anything like as bad. Plus the product that turned up required a LOT of angle grinding and adjustment.

I haven't come across anyone who has had problems with Robert Owen and his setup is excellent.  He does have a long waiting list

Problems with the quality of Shielder products is well documented.   I didn't realise that Pegasus were supplying Shielder bulkheads although I knew there was some kind of tie up

Pegasus's accounts are now 2.5 months overdue and today an application was made to strike the company off the register.

Meanwhile, a few months back, a new company called Pegasus LR Bulkheads was established (in Northern Ireland) which is owned and controlled entirely by the Coyles, the family who own/control Shielder.

 
Pay by credit card.

Don't pay the full amount.
Put a deposit down and only pay when you have inspected the item.
Don't leave it for 6 months or a year before checking if it has been made to the correct specs.

Robert Owen asked me for a deposit with the balance being paid on despatch.

Just fitted Rob Owen bulkhead,can't fault it.Took about 6 months from initial order,didn't have to pay a deposit but paid on collection.Well worth the wait,everything fitted perfectly,

I reckon if a business asks for payment in full on an item that has to be manufactured before delivery then that business is short of cash.

I helped a friend fit a replacement bulkhead. Took a long time fettling, not sure how long it took to arrive. Quality was debatable, and there were brackets missing.

Before then I had my original bulkhead bulkhead repaired, it slotted straight back in.

I would not recommend replacing the bulkhead, plus you are losing a major part of the car.
