Dog walking duties and refuelled ready for Newbury.
126 miles travelled since 28/8/24 and 7.31 gallons to brim it. That works out at 17.23 mpg but it was all short runs. A good run to Newbury should get a better figure.
It's disconcerting watching the price on the pump go up considerably quicker than the litres.

I fitted the n/s inner front wing mudshield and enjoyed the glow of satisfaction at another job completed close to the end of this long, long rebuild journey.

I took the Hammerited transmission tunnel and a piece of 120 grit and enjoyed sitting in the sun to prep it for etch primer. This was a job that had irked me and I'd avoided.

I went and picked about 6lbs of raspberries listening to Tom McKinney and his Brahms record of the week while the primer dried before putting on a coat of dark green undercoat, then found this awesome mushroom I've not identified yet.

I also dipped into Bessel van der Kolk's The Body Keeps the Score, a classic on trauma response and recovery, and in the aforementioned sun thought, "does it get better than this?" A very satisfying day.

Thanks OH  :cheers-man I've had St. George's mushrooms off this field but this is a first.

I drove it to Newbury of course. I bought a couple of genuine Land Rover oil filters (they are in the proper box and the tape hadn't been removed because there were no marks that it had) for £15. These are ERR3340 for the 2.5.

Took the 109" Station Wagon to the Stonham Land Rover Show, North of Ipswich.

Met a lot of people I know there (including too many ex-S2C members  :'( )

The long run convinced me that I need to fit larger tyres or get an overdrive, or both.....

EDIT:  I didn't even notice the Gren behind it  - until I looked at the photo!

Started to coach paint the wheels for the sprayer.
Mid grey, my favourite colour.
The vehicle was badly sprayed over the grey with marine blue, so I'm going back to original.👌😎

Fitted some headlight protectors in the hope that they make the LED headlights not stick out so much. The headlights themselves are one of the best things i've fitted but i've never really been taken with how they look.

I've got LED bulbs but I was thinking of getting proper lights. What are they like in the dark?

Night and Day difference (pun intended)!
Once set up the ones i have are in my opinion much better in almost every way!
The only drawbacks i've found are them looking slightly odd on a series 2 and them not melting the snow when driving in winter.

Who supplied them and, if you don't mind, how much, and were they a straightforward swap?

Well, not today but Thursday and Friday.
The land rover was put into action on the daily drive to work (50 minutes single trip)
My girlfriend had a stroke of bad luck with both her private car and her company car breaking down within 3 days of each other. Since she was having to drop off and pick up our son from the day care that meant that i had to surrender my daily driver Focus.

Really enjoyed the commute those two days and the Land rover didn't skip a beat :gold-cup

No photos from yesterday; I got a second dark green undercoat on my transmission tunnel and a second coat of grey oxide on the rad panel, plus a single black topcoat on the front diff housing, then sorted some 1/4" washers and 2BA washers and bits from LROE into my spares trays.

I checked the oil after yesterday's thrash to Newbury and back, no change in the level. Then I checked the antifreeze and it's ok down to -31C so that's ok.
While tidying the workbench I found a spanner with a square hole which fitted my 1/4 BSF tap perfectly. I tapped the breather outlet that is normally located under the carburettor and the result is in the photo. Of course there was swarf after the tapping and it took 10 minutes of cleaning before I was satisfied it was all gone.
After all this time I had a suitable handle for the tap in the garage.
